Where is the windfarm? How close to homes? When describing the location of the proposed windfarm, EHN (Oceania) Pty Ltd give a vague description of it being "15 km south east of Queanbeyan and 25 km south east of Canberra". What EHN consistently fails to acknowledge is that the wind farm is close to people's homes – too close. The maps below indicate just how close – many homes are within 1 to 3 kilometres of the turbines. Hundreds of homes will be within 5 kilometres of the wind farm and will be subjected to noise during both the construction phase and when the turbines are operating. The towers will be lit at night which means that the turbines will be visible 24 hours a day. Could they pick a worse place to plonk a wind farm?
As this map shows (click here or on the map for an enlarged view), not only would the turbines be slap in the middle of a rural residential area, but they'd be surrounded by sensitive areas that are home to many threatened species. How could Acciona have missed that? Were they even looking? We doubt it. As long as they can plonk their wind-plant close to an existing transmission line, that's all that matters. Do they have any concern for the local environment, any regard for local communities, or any committment to genuine consultation? Not good enough Acciona. Other visibility Maps
